Two new 1988 vintage Bruichladdich whiskies
August 19th, 2008I’ve been sitting on this information for about a week now because I haven’t had time to post it. (I spent all last week writing an essay for a book I am co-authoring for charity, and then was in Toronto over the weekend for a friend’s wedding.)
Bruichladdich is coming out with two different whiskies from the same vintage. Basically, everything is the same except for the type of sherry cask the whisky was aged in. Here’s an excerpt from my press release:
Compare and Contrast 1998
Bruichladdich has released two bottlings of the same vintage to compare and contrast. In July 1998, identically distilled whisky was filled in to Sherry casks for full term maturation. Recent tastings proved that unexpectedly two types of casks were used. One cask type had contained Oloroso, a dark, sweet, fortified wine, the backbone of ‘cream’ sherry. The other Manzanilla, a pale, dry, sophisticated wine aged by the Atlantic .
The good thing is that I was sent review samples of each, and I hope to review them in the near future. I’ll post my reviews after I have completed them. The price is about $80 in the UK. When I find out a US price and delivery date, I’ll let you know.
