Two (minus one) new Macallans
October 2nd, 2007I just received two new samples from The Macallan’s Fine & Rare collection: a 1975 vintage (from a bourbon cask) and a 1976 vintage (from a sherry cask). Both were slated to be imported to the U.S. in time for the holiday season. This is good news, because we haven’t seen anything new from Macallan for a few years, and I’m going through Macallan withdrawal.
Sadly, thanks to all the red tape that a whisky company must go through to bring a whisky into the U.S., the 1975 vintage sold out through its distribution in other Macallan markets throughout the world. So, all of us living here in the U.S. are left with just the 1976 vintage. (I plan on tasting both, and I’ll let you know if we got the better one…)
Still, one vintage is better than none, right Glenfarclas? Glenfarclas introduced 43 different vintages of The Family Cask about a month ago, and we’re not getting any of those.
Dear whisky companies:
If you wonder why there’s a market for independent bottlers, just look in the mirror. If we can’t buy your whiskies from the front door, then we’ll have to get them through the back door.
